A couple years ago, John Dwyer asked me to write an intro for a book of photographs he was putting out. I couldn't come up with anything. The second I saw the book I knew exactly what I should have written. Here it is:
Once we were all at Slim's to see some band, I forget who. We had been going to shows in people's houses, at bus stops, etc -- so going to an actual venue was kind of a big deal. Me and my friend Lila are outside having a cigarette, Dwyer gets thrown out of the show. He comes up to us and says to me 'Gimme your glasses' then asks Lila for her scarf. He puts them both on, walks up to the door, shows the guy who had just thrown him out his stamp, says hello and goes in. It was like fucking Bugs Bunny.
